Jermell Charlo has stinging words for the WBO ahead of Canelo Alvarez fight

Jermell Charlo has stinging words for the WBO ahead of Canelo Alvarez fightDAZN

The September 30 mega fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo is being billed as "Undisputed vs. Undisputed."

But the WBO already announced two weeks ago that the moment Charlo is introduced in Las Vegas that night as the undisputed junior middleweight world champion that "his status and recognition as WBO champion is terminated." The WBO's decision is due to Charlo is bypassing his mandatory challenge from Tim Tszyu in daring to be great by contending for Alvarez's undisputed super middleweight crown.

And to the WBO's ruling, Charlo is downright irked.

"I think it's some bulls—t," Charlo told "The Breakfast Club."

"What can I do? Just keep fighting.

"That organization, since I won a title, has been at my neck," he added. "I had a hand injury and I had no other choice but to take time off and get my hand right and opportunities present themselves."

He added: "They were just some haters on me. They just been at my neck."

Charlo believes it's a no-brainer to choose fighting Canelo for a slice of boxing history over fulfilling his mandatory challenge.

"I'm fighting for greatness," Charlo tacked on. "What's the point of me going in there and being like 'OK, knock the mandatory out first' because that's what's going to happen to him any f—ing ways — he's going to get knocked out — and then I pass up that opportunity? Canelo probably moved on and fought somebody else."

If Charlo defeats Alvarez, he will join Terence Crawford and Claressa Shields as the only boxers to ever win undisputed championships in two different weight classes.
