The unified junior middleweight would be willing to meet the Mexican at 158lbs.

Jermell Charlo wants to fight Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez at 158lbs and believes he would put a ‘boxing lesson’ on him.

The lighter of the Charlo twins currently fights at junior middleweight and holds the WBA, WBC and IBF belts, as he awaits the chance to take on injured WBO champion Brian Castano, which could now go ahead on May 14, a week after Canelo is due to fight Dmitry Bivol at light heavyweight.

“I sure wish I could be the guy to fight Canelo,” Charlo told Brian Custer on The Last Stand Podcast .

There are plenty of fighters who would want the same fight, with Jermall Charlo, Demetrius Andrade, David Benavidez and countless others who could conceivably make a weight that Canelo could entertain.

However, if Canelo is to fight at 175lbs then a drop down to middleweight will be tough enough, meaning Charlo’s suggestion of 158lbs might prevent anything being made.

“Canelo, come to 158, I can easily make 158,” he claimed.

“I’ll put a boxing lesson on him, just as great as Floyd Mayweather did. It’s time they put some respect on my name in the boxing world.”

Canelo recently suggested that others around the middleweight division to sort out their next fights amongst themselves in order to earn the right to take him on in the future.
