Joe Gallagher has been a vital part of Natasha Jonas’ incredible boxing journey and the Manchester trainer has identified who he wants next for his fighter.
Jonas scored the biggest win of her career last weekend when she narrowly beat Mikaela Mayer in a thrilling battle and now Gallagher wants her to head straight into another contest against Katie Taylor.
Jonas and Taylor have a lengthy history that goes back to their amateur days with the pair coming together at the 2012 Olympics.
In the professional ranks, the pair renewed hostilities in 2021 and Taylor emerged victorious once more in a closely fought bout. Is another meeting possible? Gallagher certainly thinks so.
“I would love to see the Katie Taylor fight. I think there’s great history there,” said Gallagher when speaking to BoxingScene.
“They started the rivalry in 2012 in a fantastic fight and I think for the two of them to have the last dance together [after] they’ve won world titles from 135lbs up to 154lbs, to see the two of them fight inside an arena or at Croke Park or Anfield, wherever.
“I just think they’d be ideal dance partners and then she can go into the sunset and succeed as a manager.”
