The Floyd Mayweather-John Gotti III press conference took place Wednesday in Mexico City without any fireworks as the two even shook hands following their faceoff.
But after excessive trash talk and a massive brawl resulting in a no contest for their original exhibition bout last year, Gotti III sees the rematch this weekend, live on DAZN, as fighters on a one-way street to resolving this surprise rivalry.
"We have to get in the trenches here and fight — there's no other way," Gotti III said on the dais. "If he has to get knocked out, if I have to get knocked out, so be it. It has to happen. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen."
Mayweather, who produced a spotless 50-0 professional record before engaging in these exhibition bouts, wanted Gotti III and his team to know that he's comfortable with this kind of talk.
"One thing about me, I've heard it all," Mayweather offered on the stage. "When I say heard it all, I mean been around the world, competed against the best. When you talk about the Olympics, I competed against the best. Whether it was the world champions in the Olympics, the Cubans, I competed against the best. Mexico, the pedigree of the Mexican boxing is truly unbelievable, but I competed against the best."
He added moments later: "It's always about competing and going up against the best so Saturday it is what it is — I'm Floyd Mayweather, I've already faced the best."
