'I could punch and sell tickets!' - Johnny Fisher reflects on boxing origins before Dave Allen boutDAZN

Johnny Fisher admits that a boxing career was never too far away from his life despite dropping the sport as a teenager, ahead of his bout with Dave Allen this month.

The Romford Bull will fight the veteran heavyweight on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury's rematch at Riyadh Season's Reignited live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.

Hailing from a boxing family, Fisher previously dropped the sport and looked set to pursue a career in Rugby Union instead, before the Covid-19 pandemic happened.

Speaking exclusively to DAZN before his fight with Allen at Kingdom Arena on December 21, the fast-rising star outlined how he came to become one of the hottest tickets around.

"All my brothers have done boxing," he said. "Where you’re from, you try a bit. [I am] 12-0 now. I’ve got a long way to go, but the last fight was a step in the right direction.

"I don’t have the extensive amateur background some other people have. I was a rugby player. I did box before then, I was involved in gyms until I was thirteen or fourteen.

"COVID happened and I started sparring Joe Joyce. His managers turned me pro on a whim. We had to prove ourselves in the first year, [that] I could punch and sell tickets."

Fisher is 12-0 across his professional career with all but one of his victories by knockout, including a brutal first-round victory over Alen Babic in July.

Victory over Allen will burnish an already growing record, as he looked to make headway in a crowded heavyweight division currently dominated by Usyk, Fury and Daniel Dubois.
