As part of his press conference Monday, Eddie Hearn said to "expect the very, very best" when it comes to undercard for the highly anticipated Andy Ruiz Jr.-Anthony Joshua rematch in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia on Dec. 7.
The Matchroom Boxing promoter might have already pinpointed an early favorite for its co-main event: Dereck Chisora vs. Joseph Parker in heavyweight action.
"With Chisora and Parker, there's been lots of talk," Hearn told Sky Sports on Monday. "I owe David Haye a call today to try and make that fight. Joseph Parker is up for that fight, so is Dereck. That could even be a fight for the undercard of Ruiz Jr.-AJ II."
Both Parker and Chisora find themselves on two-fight winning streaks. The 27-year-old Parker (26-2, 20 KOs) rebounded from back-to-back unanimous decision losses against Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte to record knockouts over Alexander Flores in December and Alex Leapai this past June.
Whyte also handed Chisora a 2018 loss, but the 35-year-old veteran bounced back to score a unanimous decision victory over Senad Gashi in April followed by a KO of Artur Szpilka last month.
With both Parker and Chisora building momentum, the timing seems right for them to step into the ring together. And what better time than the Dec. 7 Ruiz-Joshua rematch, which is bound to be one of the most watched boxing cards of the year?
"We're looking to build an incredible undercard in Diriyah on December 7," Hearn said. "Parker against Chisora would be a big fight for that undercard."
