Rejuvenated and brimming with confidence, Juan Francisco Estrada has been on quite a tear as of late.
After dropping a majority decision to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in February 2018, Estrada scored hard-fought wins over Felipe Orucuta and Victor Mendez to close out the year, before exorcising his demons with a unanimous decision victory over Rungvisai in their rematch this past April to become WBC, The Ring and lineal super flyweight champion of the world.
To keep the momentum going, Estrada will need to defend his WBC strap against Dewayne Beamon on Saturday night at the Centro de Usos Múltiples in Hermosillo, Mexico, live and exclusively on DAZN.
The 29-year-old Estrada set the tone early against Rungvisai and survived a late burst from the former champ to get the nod on all three judges' cards in April. He might need to come out as strongly against Beamon, considering the title challenger also has some newfound confidence entering this bout.
The 34-year-old Beamon rebounded from a split decision loss to Martin Tecuapetla in August 2018 to defeat him in their rematch just over two months later in October. That being said, his first world title shot will easily mark the Goldsboro, N.C. native's toughest test to date in the ring.
For Estrada, who's in his first bout under Matchroom Boxing, anything less than a punctuating victory would be considered a letdown.
The card also features Liam Smith, who's fighting Mario Alberto Lozano, and Jono Carroll, who's facing Eleazar Valenzuela in his first fight since challenging IBF super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer.
