What a bizarre ending.

Charlie Edwards didn't get the hometown fight he had in mind, but he does get to walk away from the O2 Arena in London with his WBC flyweight title intact.

Julio Cesar Martinez used a barrage of punches to drop Edwards in the third round, but when he had the champ down on one knee, he added in a clearly late body shot to put Edwards out for good. Martinez was announced as the winner and new WBC flyweight champion by knockout.

But after a brief discussion, the WBC overruled the decision and declared it a no-contest due to the late shot. That means Edwards gets to keep his title.

However, a rematch has already been ordered, with just a date needing to be confirmed.

Martinez probably wishes he could take that late punch back, considering he was ripping through Edwards to drop the champ in the first place, and looked poised to become the world champion.

Perhaps Martinez could prove he's worthy of being the world champ in the rematch.
