Katie Taylor has been linked with every 'dream match' women's boxing has to offer, but Natasha Jonas on May 1 is her next real assignment.

Katie Taylor admitted that a future fight with fellow undisputed divisional ruler and history-maker Claressa Shields is probably beyond the scope of realism, as she prepares for her next lightweight title defence against old rival Natasha Jonas on May 1 in chief support to Dereck Chisora vs. Joseph Parker.

Taylor and Jonas both fought at the London 2012 Olympics, with Taylor coming out on top in the quarter-finals before going on to claim gold.

Jonas very nearly became world champion at super-featherweight when she battled Terri Harper to a thrilling draw at Fight Camp last summer, and her underdog performance has rewarded her with one more crack at Taylor, this time in the pro realm.

Taylor joined The Ak & Barak Show (on DAZN and Sirius XM Fight Nation) to discuss her upcoming bout, but talk inevitably also moved onto the myriad of various big name opponents Taylor is always linked to.

Ak and Barak asked her if Shields, who fights and dominates at middleweight and super-middle, would be too big an opponent even if she cut weight to 147lbs, and Taylor responded: "I think that's fair, to be honest.

"It’s a pity that Claressa hasn’t got the dance partners at her level she deserves outside of Savannah Marshall. I’m not the biggest lightweight in the world and I think it’s too big a discrepancy, too much of a weight difference."

The next name brought up was Amanda Serrano, who very nearly signed to fight Taylor in the past. Many fans regard Serrano, Taylor and Shields as the current women's pound-for-pound top three, and perhaps the top three of all time.

"That fight was already scheduled a couple of times last year," explained Taylor. "It didn’t materialise for whatever reason but I was training for it at one point. She’s a great fighter and it’s a fight a lot of people would look forward to. It's definitely a 50/50 fight, I’d look forward to that.

"She looked great in her last fight, she's a great puncher and she boxed very well. But for now I’m focusing on Natasha Jonas. It feels like the whole world is calling me out sometimes!"

On Jonas' huge performance againsty Harper, which many feel should have been awarded in her favour, Taylor added: "I didn’t watch the fight closely, to be honest, but I thought it was a great fight. She was a big underdog against Harper and she performed very very well.

"I know her from the amateur game, we fought a couple of times including at the London Olympics. It was always a very close fight in the amateurs and I’m looking forward to this."
