The undisputed lightweight champion will return to the ring against her mandatory challenger, says Eddie Hearn.

Katie Taylor (16-0, 6 KOs) is likely to return to action in November, her promoter Eddie Hearn revealed in a recent interview.

Taylor was last in action on the fourth and final show of Hearn's Matchroom Fight Camp series, a four-card run during the month of August that saw the firm return to staging live cards after several months out due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 34-year-old Irish star, who currently holds the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles, outpointed Belgium's Delfine Persoon in a rematch of their 2019 thriller to end their rivalry once and for all.

This time around, the WBA have installed unbeaten Spaniard Miriam Gutierrez (13-0, 5 KOs) as her contractually-obliged defence.

Gutierrez, 37, has held the WBA's interim title since last winter, and Hearn revealed in a recent interview with Boxing Social that he is setting the title fight up for November on a card soon to be formally confirmed.

“Katie Taylor has to fight her WBA mandatory next, which is [Miriam] Gutierrez, that will be on a stand-alone card in November that will be announced shortly,” he said.

“That card will have three world title fights on it in total.”

Taylor and Hearn had previously spoken of their desire to embark on a run of "superfights" for the champion.

However, talks with Amanda Serrano led to repeated frustrations, while Jessica McCaskill upsetting Cecilia Braekhus means Taylor will have to wait until after their rematch for the welterweight title belts before potentially challenging the winner to a huge undisputed champ vs. undisputed champ scenario.

For the time being, mandatory duty calls for Taylor, with Hearn trying to set an official date for November.
