The former welterweight world champion will aim to return to the ring stronger following his first pro loss.

Keith Thurman has had just over two months of reflecting from his first pro loss, which came at the hands of Manny Pacquiao in July.

Well, it turns out that the former welterweight world champion will have even more time to reflect and plot his future. On Saturday, Thurman took to Twitter and revealed he recently underwent surgery on his left hand, and that he will be out until early next year.

Thurman, 30, isn't a stranger to injury. Prior to his majority-decision win over Josesito Lopez in January, Thurman had a 22-month absence from the ring due to a surgery to extract calcium deposits from his right elbow in April 2017, followed by a hand injury while training in March 2018 that essentially wiped out that year as he rehabbed and recovered.

Even with his first pro loss, Thurman (29-1, 22 KOs) figures to be a strong player at 147 pounds upon his return — as long as he's healthy.
