Canelo is the target of many fighters.

James Toney made a big name for himself in the 1990s and following decade with a number of impressive displays.

At his best, Toney was able to defeat some of boxing’s best names, and he’s now revealed that he sees himself on another level to Canelo Alvarez.

After hitting the top of the sport with victory Michael Nunn, Toney went on to share the ring with some of boxing’s greatest ever fighters.

A resounding loss to Roy Jones Jr in 1994 didn't halt his future progress and he continued to fight on until his retirement in 2017 with 92 fights on his ledger.

Often spoken about when discussing the great fighters of the modern era, Toney usually ranks high, and the Michigan man has had his say on the Mexican icon who came after him.

“Come see me. I keep on seeing my name, comparing James Toney to Canelo. There is no comparison. There is none. I’m up here, Canelo’s down there. Period,” said Toney when speaking to Fight Hub TV

“Who was more skill than me? No-one but Sugar Ray Robinson. We on top. Wanna know why? Only the best fighters come from where? Detroit.”
