Leigh Wood is eager to settle the score with Mauricio Lara and he’s demanded that Eddie Hearn makes the rematch this summer.
Wood was ahead on the cards when in with the powerful Mexican last month, but a left hook from Lara in round seven changed everything as Ben Davison threw in the towel to save his man from further punishment.
Wood had been hoping to land a summer showdown with Josh Warrington in a stadium setting but those plans were thwarted thanks to Lara.
The Nottingham man has not given up hope of landing big fights moving forward, but his immediate priority is his most recent conqueror and he’s hopeful the rematch can be made next.
“It’s been hard because it still hurts. I want an immediate rematch,” said Wood when speaking to BBC Sport.
“I’ve told Eddie Hearn that’s what I want. I want the rematch as soon as possible. I want it as early as the end of May, or in June by the latest. just got caught with a good shot. I got complacent, started planting my feet and paid the price.”
