Boxing returns to Wakefield in Yorkshire on Wednesday at the LS-Live venue, with Lewis Crocker’s bout against Louis Greene scheduled to headline the card of the MTK Fight Night for the WBO Welterweight European title.
Crocker (11-0, 6 KOs) is the favourite having gone undefeated in his 11 professional bouts. He made his debut just three years ago, when he beat Ferenc Jarko in 2017. While he can point to six knockouts in a relatively short career, all of his last five fights were settled on points.
Crocker is expecting the toughest fight of his career to date, and said:
“I’m excited to be back, especially because it’s headlining my first show, too. I’ve been busting for a fight for a while, so to be competing for a WBO European title is a big step up.”
Crocker is aware that to win the title he will have to overcome a fighter who, on paper at least, has achieved more than he has so far.
“With everything that’s going on in the world, it’s truly great to be part of a show, so fair play to MTK Global for getting these class events together throughout August and September.
“Louis Greene is a solid opponent and has fought at a higher level than me and is ranked higher than me, so I’m expecting my toughest fight to date. I’ve always wanted to fight for a title, and you can definitely guarantee that there will be fireworks on August 26th.”
Louis Greene (12-1, 7 KOs) will fight as the underdog, though you would have to go as far back as 2018 to find his last defeat, when he lost to Larry Ekundayo for the IBF European Welterweight title. He has since won three fights on the bounce, but has not fought since November last year.
Greene is not cowed by the chance to fight in another match where he is not considered the favourite, saying:
“Crocker’s team will be extremely confident and they’ll see me as the underdog, but even when I fought the likes of Freddy Kiwitt, Lee Gillespie and Lukasz Wierzbicki in Poland, I was expected to come unstuck in those fights and I won.”
