Liam Williams is in a confident mood ahead of his world middleweight title clash with Demetrius Andrade this Saturday night exclusively live on DAZN. Since falling short at the highest level at 154lbs against Liam Smith at the backend of 2017, Williams has responded brilliantly and now he has another chance to prove that he belongs on the world scene.
As a guest on Boxing with Chris Mannix, the boisterous Welshman provided several insights to his preparations for his imminent battle with Andrade. Currently on a run of seven stoppage victories, Williams’ power is well documented but the 28-year-old still believes that the man from Rhode Island could have has sights set on bigger targets.
“I don’t think he’s stupid enough to totally overlook me,” opined Williams when talking with Mannix. “What I do think might’ve happened is he’s got one eye elsewhere on other fights when I don’t think he quite realises how much of a test and how hard this fight is going to be for him.
“Hopefully he has overlooked me. I don’t think he has but if he has then it’s only going to play into my favour and it’s going to make me win easier than what I think I’m going to win anyway.”
With the bulk of the pre-fight build up taking on a confrontational tone with both fighters exchanging insults on social media and at press conferences, Williams was quick to point out to Mannix that he does respect Andrade.
“You have to respect his ability and the experience and everything he’s got, but essentially I think I’m going to beat him and I’m going to knock him out. There are things I like and there’s things I don’t like about him. I suppose that’s the way of life. You can’t be everybody’s cup of tea.”
