Sergio Mora believes that Liam Williams has almost no chance against Demetrius Andrade.
The pair will be fighting for Andrade’s WBO middleweight belt with Williams designated as the 33-year-old American’s mandatory challenger.
The April 17 clash will be shown worldwide on DAZN.
While Andrade is the heavy favourite for the clash, Welsh former boxing champion Joe Calzaghe believes that Williams has a good chance of success.
Mora is unconvinced, despite Williams’ talents. Speaking to Chris Mannix on DAZN’s JABS, he explained his position.
“I have nothing but respect for Joe Calzaghe and all Welshmen because I know how tough and strong... and that fighting spirit they have,” he began.
“But when it comes to Demetrius Andrade, a guy that’s never even been hurt, a former Olympian, a champion, a tall southpaw that doesn’t take chances, I don’t care how strong of a machine you are, it’s going to be a tough one to reprogramme someone to beat a fighter like Andrade.”
The former WBC light middleweight champion thought that 28-year-old Williams’ chances were slim unless Andrade took his eye off the ball in his preparation.
“Since we talk about not taking an opponent seriously, that’s why a long time champion, even undefeated, can be caught off guard,” he stated.
“We haven’t seen it yet, and we haven’t even seen Andrade hurt, and when it comes to a fighter like Liam Willians. He’s a strong fighter, he has what you need against a southpaw, he has a good right hand and timing behind it.
“He’s going to come in shape, come in prepared, come in hungry. But if they’re both at their best I see no chances for Willaims.”
