Ezra Arenyeka continued his rivalry with Ben Whittaker in the ring on Saturday night, as he was docked a point for elbowing his opponent.
At the weigh-in on Friday, Whittaker grabbed Arenyeka by the throat as tempers threatened to spill over before fight night.
The two met on the undercard for Chris Billam-Smith vs. Richard Riakporhe at Selhurst Park in London, and both of them goaded one another with showboating.
Ultimately Whittaker was the winner via unanimous decision to claim the vacant WBA Gold belt, staying undefeated in the process.
In the sixth round Arenyeka appeared to headbutt his opponent, and followed that up with an elbow in the seventh, leading the referee to dock a point from the fighter, though he would have lost on the scorecards regardless.
Elsewhere on the card, as well as Billam-Smith’s victory, Jack Massey defeated Isaac Chamberlain for the vacant European cruiserweight championship, and Dan Azeez’s first fight since the defeat to Joshua Buatsi ended in a draw with Croatia’s Hrvoje Sep.
