Logan Paul did what many inside and outside of boxing felt he couldn't do on Sunday night by going the distance in his exhibition bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr. One of the more significant questions coming out of the event is what is next for the social media influencer turned boxer?
Paul gave a slight hint at his post-fight press conference on what his next move could be when asked about the clinching and grabbing of Mayweather whenever he got hit by a powerful shot.
"I was grabbing him, yeah," Paul said to reporters. "I'd do MMA, for sure, because I am a good grappler. You know, I'm a wrestler at heart."
The 26-year-old has a bit of an MMA background. He was a wrestler at Westlake High School in Ohio. In his senior year, "The Maverick" finished in fifth place in the Ohio State Championships and was on the wrestling team when he went to Ohio University. Mixed martial arts is something that's in Paul's back pocket if he wants to go that route. He could also stay in boxing or possibly venture into the world of pro wrestling, where he appeared at April's WrestleMania 37.
"Anytime I can entertain, you know, I'm happy, whether it's me getting in a boxing ring and risking my life, whether it's me, you know, getting stunnered in the WWE preparing for a match there," Paul said. "A podcast – like, I just love entertaining. I just like making people happy, you know, with the stuff that I love doing and what I make and creating myself out of my life, and that's my dream."
Paul had some success in the first two rounds of the eight-round exhibition. But Mayweather pumped the foot on the gas pedal a little bit harder and dominated the remainder of the contest. There was no winner, but the YouTube personality was happy that he went the distance with one of boxing's all-time greats.
"It's tough," Paul said. "You know, I knew if it went the distance, I won, technically, but that wasn't the game plan. When you're fighting a guy like Floyd – you know, the legend, the boxer – you're kind of relying on him to figure out the gameplan, then just playing off his. I think I got him with a good shot in that first round, which kind of threw him off a little bit. And I mean, yes, surviving against Floyd Mayweather, like, is great.
"He's my second opponent. Floyd Mayweather, my second opponent. And so, yeah, I mean, I'm happy. It's good. It was good fun."
