He could hardly stand himself, but Derek Chisora somehow detonated a massive overhand right that knocked Joe Joyce flat on his back in a heap.
That unexpected ninth-round knockdown powered Chisora's way to a unanimous decision victory over Joyce at The O2 Arena in London, England on Saturday. Judges scored it 97-92, 96-94 and 96-94 all in favor of Chisora.
As the bout went on, both men were badly fatigued on weakened legs but Joyce had Chisora reeling and wobbled on the ropes courtesy of a right-left hook combination in the eighth round.
Chisora somehow managed to hang on and survive the round before catching a shocked Joyce with that overhand right, making Joyce taste the canvas in the ninth. As Joyce got up, he was rocked by another right hand.
Although both warriors traded effective blows in the 10th and final round, Chisora got the better of the exchanges and his knockdown of Joyce was the difference maker as the 40-year-old earned his second straight victory.
