Plans to stage Anthony Joshua against Deontay Wilder next year are still ongoing but Frank Smith has ruled out the fight taking place in December.
The heavyweight rivals have been on a collision course for the best part of a decade and there appears to be a good chance that we’ll find out who is the better boxer in 2024.
Wilder has been inactive since destroying Robert Helenius in one round last year whilst Joshua has had two outings in 2023.
The British fighter is eager to have one more contest this year before heading into a potential Wilder fight, but Smith, a prominent figure at Matchroom has provided some information on what is currently being discussed.
“We are working on that now. The key for us right now is activity for Anthony,” said Smith regarding Joshua vs. Wilder to ProBoxTV
“We are still looking at options for December-January time to keep him busy. Obviously, he fought in April and August, something he hasn’t done in a long time.”
