Mauricio Lara believes he can inflict another defeat on Josh Warrington's record.

The Mexican is back in action this weekend when he takes on Leigh Wood for the WBA world featherweight title live across the world on DAZN (except Australia and New Zealand).

This will not be the first time Lara has travelled to Britain in seach of greatness, in February 2021 he took on Josh Warrington behind closed doors at Wembley Arena in a fight where he sprung a huge upset with a ninth round stoppage.

The two then met in a rematch seven months later and it was brought to an early end after round two by the ringside doctor who stopped the fight after Lara picked up a dangerous cut over his left eye.

It's clear that there is still unfinished business between Lara and Warrington, but when it comes to Saturday's fight, 'The Leeds Warrior' is backing his fellow countryman to overcome the hard-hitting Mexican.

When asked to give his reaction to Warrington's prediction, Lara was quick to dimiss Warrington's verdict and expressed his desire to beat the former IBF world featherweight champion if the two were to meet in a trilogy fight.

"Well, what can someone who got knocked out in nine rounds have to say? Who got his jaw fractured, his shoulder and elbow damaged," Lara said.

"Chickens always criticise people but he knows ‘Bronco’ Lara is coming for him and I will destroy him.”
