The president of the World Boxing Council supports the idea of a super middleweight tournament to find the next challenger for the pound-for-pound king.

As time goes by, more and more fighters are expressing their desire to face Saul Canelo Alvarez in the hope of featuring in one of boxing's biggest events and also securing a huge pay day.

But while some of those wanting to face Canelo are willing to move whichever weight class the Mexican desires, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman believes there is one candidate who has real reasons to challenge Canelo beyond the economic ones.

"Obviously everyone wants to fight Canelo, because it is the fight that solves life. But you have to be calm. I think out of everyone (David) Benavidez is the one who genuinely wants the fight for the boxing issue more than the economic one. Benavidez is young, he has a lot to give and he has to be patient, calm and do his own thing," Sulaiman said in an interview with DAZN.

Sulaiman also explained that Canelo is in a privileged position, therefore it was necessary for the WBC to create a franchise champion.

"El canelo has an agenda for this year and there are many possibilities. But as far as the rest of the division is concerned, definitely the tournaments are very good.

"Already David Benavides is starting against David Lemieux, Caleb Plant may be another one that enters the equation, Jermell Charlo. In short, there are many possibilities.

"The point is not to fall into despair. But I think there is Canelo for everyone and for a long time," Sulaiman concluded.
