Michael Conlan will return to Belfast on August 6th. Sources close to DAZN tell us that the opponent in the opposite corner is likely to be former world champion, TJ Doheny.
The fight will take place at Fells Park in the Northern Irish capital and Conlan will be hoping that the contest can serve as a platform for bigger honours.
Now operating at super-bantamweight after some minor title success at featherweight, Conlan, a star amateur, has his sights firmly set on the winner of September’s unification clash between Omar Figueroa and Stephen Fulton.
If victorious in August, then Conlan wants a world title fight in 2022, preferably in New York City on St Patrick’s Day.
“It’s amazing to be going back to Belfast. I love it there,” said Conlan when speaking exclusively to DAZN News. “I’ve fought there before and the reception every single time is fantastic.
“It really brings the best out of me. It’s a fight I have to win because I know I’m getting closer to a dream of fighting for a world title.
“I’ve always said that I want to be world champion and if I could do that on St Patrick’s Day with thousands and thousands of Irish people there supporting me then what a story that would be.
“I’ve got to get this next fight out the way and then I’ll be watching closely when Figueroa fights Fulton. I want the winner of that one.”
