Michael Conlan vs. Jordan Gill: Ricky Hatton makes prediction for super featherweight clash

Michael Conlan vs. Jordan Gill: Ricky Hatton makes prediction for super featherweight clashMark Robinson/Matchroom Boxing
The British boxing legend has given one fighter the slight edge in Saturday's fight.

Michael Conlan and Jordan Gill meet in Belfast on Saturday night in a crossroads fight.

Both men come into this contest on the back of losses and will be eager to return to winning ways which could set up some major fights in 2024.

With Conlan having an avid Irish fanbase, Gill will be stepping into a hostile atmosphere when he makes his ringwalk at the SSE Arena in Belfast which could play into Conlan's hands.

Speaking to ICE36, British boxing legend Ricky Hatton gave his prediction for the matchup and believes Conlan's experience against higher level opponents will be the difference come fight night along with the home crowd.

"I know Conlan quite well. He’s boxed at a decent level before. He’ll have the crowd behind him fighting in Belfast, and, to be honest with you, you’ve never seen boxing fans like it in Belfast," Hatton said.

"The home crowd can make the difference in this fight. It worked for me for Kostya Tszyu, it worked for Billam-Smith in Bournemouth. Conlan might need a bit of help from the crowd.

"Both fighters lost in their last fights, so they will both want to bounce back. They will want to put themselves back in the picture again.

"The crowd will want to play its part, so I’m going to give the edge to Conlan. I think he’s boxed at a slightly higher level."
