Mike Perry recalls sparring session against Jake Paul ahead of Florida showdown

Mike Perry recalls sparring session against Jake Paul ahead of Florida showdownChris Unger/Zuffa LLC
The two fighters have history.

Mike Perry has revealed what happened in his eyes when he sparred Jake Paul three years ago.

Paul and Perry are set to renew hostilities on July 20 when they go head-to-head in Tampa, live on DAZN. Paul will be hoping this will be a useful warm-up ahead of his clash with boxing legend Mike Tyson later this year.

Perry meanwhile will look to inflict the second defeat of Paul's boxing career, and he may know a thing or two when it comes to troubling the 27-year-old after the two met in a sparring session.

Speaking to Morning Kombat, Perry looked back on his meeting with Paul and claimed his pressure was a problem for his opponent.

"[The sparring] was three years ago, a week before I fought Daniel Rodriguez. I was around 175lb, he was around 195lb," Perry said.

"He hit me with a couple of sniper shots in the second and third rounds but I took them quite well. His team was all there, cheering. I had my son who was maybe two months old at the time and my wife was there, that's who I went to the gym with.

"Jake had all his people there, they were cheering for him a little bit but those cheers died down after he hit me with those sniper shots and I kept putting the pressure on."

Paul already has one victory under his belt in 2024 after he knocked out Ryan Bourland in March, and he will look to make it two wins from two in Florida.
