Mike Tyson confirmed that Friday's defeat to Jake Paul was the last time he'd step into a ring as a fighter.
Much was made of Tyson's post-fight comments on Friday in which the 58-year-old former undisputed world heavyweight champion said he was unsure if he'd continue fighting after losing comprehensively to Paul, with "Iron Mike" even suggesting that he could take on Paul's older brother Logan in a future bout.
The manner in which Tyson lost to Paul on Friday was a jarring reminder that Father Time always wins in the end, as the man who stood across from his 27-year-old opponent looked a shell of the fighter who was once the most feared in the world.
Instead, Friday's bout confirmed to viewers that Tyson was right to stay away from professional boxing since his previous fight in 2005, and on Saturday the "Baddest Man on the Planet" came to the same conclusion.
"This is one of those situations when you lost but still won," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time."
In the same post, Tyson also described in detail the ulcer flare-up that forced the postponement of the fight from its original July 20 date. According to Tyson, it was a life-threatening occurence.
"I almost died in June," he wrote. "Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.
"To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you."
