Mike Tyson's trainer plays down health concerns ahead of huge Jake Paul fight

Mike Tyson's trainer plays down health concerns ahead of huge Jake Paul fightDAZN
Tyson meets Paul in July.

Mike Tyson’s upcoming fight with Jake Paul has generated global interest, but it’s also brought some concern due to the former’s age and time outside the ring.

Tyson is approaching 60 years of age and has not fought professionally since 2005 and those are two of the reasons why some people within the boxing community have looked down on the fight.

At his peak, Tyson was one of boxing’s most menacing performers and his phenomenal climb in the 1980s made him one of the most recognisable fighters of all time.

Paul has built his reputation via YouTube but his transition to fighter has brought new eyes on the sport, and despite him having youth on his side, Tyson’s trainer is not worried about his own man.

"I believe we don’t have to be concerned about it. We’re talking about a two-time world champion,” said Rafael Cordiero when speaking on The MMA Hour

"The guy didn’t have 20 fights in two years, he knows how to fight. He’s fought against the best guys in the world.

"When he steps inside the ring, he knows what to do. It’s not something new for Mike, and this fight is no different.

"He works hard every single day to go in there and try to knock Jake out from the beginning to the end. He’s going to prove that in July.”
