Mikey Garcia will make his debut for a new fighting home in 2020.
The four-division world champion has signed with Matchroom Boxing USA and will fight exclusively and live on DAZN on Feb. 29. His opponent for that date has yet to be announced, but Garcia can't wait.
“I am happy to announce my return to the ring for Feb. 29,” Garcia said in a Matchroom Boxing USA press release. “I am eager to make my return and grow my legacy. I look forward to working with Matchroom Boxing USA and DAZN and I want to thank all my fans for the continued support. Fight details will be announced soon and I can’t wait to be back in the ring.”
The 31-year-old Garcia (39-1, 30 KOs) hasn’t fought since moving up two weight classes from lightweight to welterweight to challenge Errol Spence Jr. in March at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. He took his first pro loss in that bout, but earned more respect for daring to be great. It's expected he'll continue fighting at welterweight.
Garcia has captured world titles as a junior welterweight, lightweight, junior lightweight and featherweight and counts victories over the likes of Adrien Broner, Roman Martinez and Orlando Salido. He'll be looking to add to his fighting legacy with this bout in just over two months' time.
“Mikey is a standout star and I’m looking forward to working with him on big fights moving forward," Matchroom Boxing USA president Eddie Hearn said. “He will return to the ring on Feb. 29 and we will be announcing the opponent and venue shortly. The talent within Matchroom Boxing and on DAZN is unprecedented — we look forward to an epic 2020!”
