Naoya Inoue’s first undisputed super bantamweight title defence, when he takes on Luis Nery, is set to take place at the prestigious Tokyo Dome.
MyNavi and Jake Donovan have confirmed that the grudge match is to take place on May 6th in Europe but on Sunday, May 5th local time in Japan, on the last day of the country's Golden Week.
The fight will be the first time the famous Dome has hosted a significant boxing match since Buster Douglas' famous upset over Mike Tyson in 1990, but there is belief that the showdown between Inoue and Nery is worthy of the stage and will draw a huge crowd.
Nery remains suspended “indefinitely” from fighting in Japan after failing to make weight for his WBC-mandated rematch against Shinsuke Yamanaka in Match last year.
It was seen as the last straw by the Japanese Boxing Committee following a number of incidents involving Nery and his fights in Japan. However, organisers are confident that the suspension will be lifted for a clash with Inoue at the Dome.
