Natasha Jonas added the IBF super-welterweight title to her collection as she proved to be too good for Marie Eve Dicaire following ten entertaining rounds.
Jonas entered the bout as WBC and WBO champion, and after claiming her third world title, Jonas immediately set out her plans for what comes next year.
Jonas made a brilliant start to the fight and instantly got her left hand into play as she found Dicaire’s target several times in the opening rounds.
Jonas built an early lead as she dominated the fight’s first half, but Dicaire did threaten in round six as she unleashed several attacks as Jonas occasionally found herself on the ropes.
Despite Dicaire’s brief rally, Jonas was able to soak up the assaults and get back to doing what gave her the early lead.
Jonas finished strongly and after ten rounds, there was no doubt that the Liverpool fighter was the victor. All three judges went for Jonas with scores of 100-90, 98-92, and 97-93.
On a potential fight with Claressa Shields next, Jonas said, “She vacated the belts, she was number one in the division, she can get down to this weight, but there's other options. I had to win to make sure those options are still open.”
