New WBC interim light heavyweight champion David Benavidez wants to fight Canelo Alvarez next.
Benavidez fought Oleksandr Gvozdyk in Las Vegas last night, and he came away with a unanimous decision win.
The judges gave him the victory by 116-112, 117-111 and 119-109, all in his favour.
“I think it’s a 7 out of 10,” Benavidez said after the fight. “Oleksandr is a great fighter. I thought I had a great fight, tough fight, and we will move on.”
He then said that he would be ready for Canelo if the opportunity came, but he would also be ready to move down the weight simply to challenge for a super middleweight title if one becomes available.
“We’re still looking at 168 for "Canelo" [Alvarez] or a title if he vacates,” he confirmed.
Canelo fought in May and beat Jaime Munguia, and he is yet to decide upon a new opponent for another 2024 bout.
