Benn was one of the best of his era.

Nigel Benn does not think that Canelo Alvarez is the best super middleweight of all time.

Benn was a world champion in his day, holding titles at both middleweight and super middleweight, and he is best known for his rivalry with Chris Eubank.

Recently, another former British world champion, Carl Froch, claimed he would have emerged victorious had he fought Benn, and the 60-year-old was happy to let Froch hold that opinion.

“Carl Froch said 'he'd beat me and he'd do this' that's his opinion, you can't knock a man for his own opinion. He had a hard fight against [Mikkel] Kessler, but Kessler was no Iran Barkley, he was no Doug DeWitt, he was no Chris Eubank or Gerald McClellan, I can go on," he told Fruity Slots .

“But I'm not knocking him, he had a good chin, he fought Jermaine Taylor and just pulled it out the bag, he was about to lose that, I'm not knocking him, he was three time world champion, but I'd give it my all and I know if I catch him, that's it mate.

“And if he catches me, who knows, we both have dynamite in our hands. I didn't duck anybody, he could have fought Joe Calzaghe but that never happened.”

Benn then declared Calzagher the best fighter at 168lbs of all time, adding: “Joe would have won that 100 per cent. He was the best super middleweight of all time.”
