If you've ever wondered what a world class boxer does in training in the final week before a title fight, Oleksandr Usyk unveiled a small portion of his fight week plans on Tuesday.
Speaking to DAZN at the Grand Arrivals ahead of Saturday's heavyweight title rematch with Tyson Fury, Usyk revealed what kind of training regimen he's keeping four days before fight night.
"Today [we're] not boxing, because today we're doing cardio, moving, stretching," he told DAZN's Ade Oladipo, "Today's easy."
As for the rest of the week, Usyk plans to keep things simple.
"Training, relax, eating, speaking with my family," Usyk said. "Watching movies, and that's enough."
Ever the showman, Usyk attended Tuesday's Grand Arrivals event adorned in a purple suit with a faux tiger sash that elicited memories of James Earl Jones' character, King Jaffe Joffer, in the 1980s comedy "Coming to America." But while he exuded a relaxed confidence in a way that only Usyk can, the unified world heavyweight champion said that he remains focused on the task at hand.
For Usyk, that task is to once again push Fury out of his comfort zone by being the aggressor, a strategy which worked wonders for the Ukrainian in their first encounter.
"Same again, because this is my plan," Usyk said when asked by DAZN's Darren Barker what the world can expect of him on Saturday. "But maybe we do new work ... we know a little bit because we [studied] each other watching the first fight.
"I have new secrets."
