If his thorough domination of the cruiserweight division was any indication, Oleksandr Usyk as a heavyweight should continue to be a must-see fighter.
The Ukrainian bruiser makes his heavyweight debut Saturday night, when he takes on Chazz Witherspoon at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, live on DAZN.
Witherspoon (38-3, 29 KOs) is a last-minute replacement for Tyrone Spong after there were adverse findings in two of Spong's urine samples. The Illinois State Athletic Commission rescinded its approval of the bout with Usyk, and in stepped Witherspoon on Tuesday.
“I can’t wait to face Usyk in Chicago,” Witherspoon said via a press release. “I have been in training ready for a big fight, and it doesn’t get bigger than this. Oleksandr is stepping up to heavyweight — and he’s going to find out that it’s a totally different game.”
In his last fight, the 32-year-old Usyk (16-0, 12 KOs) knocked out Tony Bellew in November in England to retain his undisputed cruiserweight crown. He vacated his cruiserweight titles in March in anticipation of this very moment, on the brink of his heavyweight debut.
