Oscar Collazo retains WBO strawweight championship after stopping Garen DiaganDAZN

Pressure and persistence paid off for Oscar Collazo on Saturday night.

The WBO strawweight world champion imposed his will on Garen Diagan to the point that the Filipino fighter couldn't make it off his stool for the seventh round at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico. And just like that, Collazo made his first world title defense and improved to 8-0 with 6 KOs.

Collazo's stoppage of Diagan came as a result of measured pressure, which eventually overwhelmed and drowned Diagan out.

Though Diagan was game and had some success counterpunching, he didn't have adequate answers in negating Collazo's combinations, which often started with debilitating shots to the body before splintering uppercuts and hooks crashed across the Filipino's jaw. As Diagan winced and reacted to the body shots by lowering his arms, he was constantly left vulnerable to shots upstairs.
