Oscar De La Hoya spent a lot of his promotional career nurturing the talent of Canelo Alvarez, but now he believes there is a fighter who would easily beat him.

De La Hoya and Canelo were once a prosperous partnership, but their relationship has soured since the pair split several years ago.

Despite the separation, both men have continued to enjoy success in their respective fields with each holding lofty positions in the sport.

As it stands, Canelo is currently the best super-middleweight in boxing, but that spot could be tested this year if he faces Terence Crawford

The former undisputed champion at two weights has long stated his intentions to face the Mexican icon and that showdown could take place in 2025.

Another fighter who is eager to test himself against Canelo is David Benavidez and the Arizona man has the backing of De La Hoya.

Benavidez partakes in a huge contest this weekend when he goes up against David Morrell , but if he ever lands a bout with Canelo, De La Hoya thinks there is only one winner.

"I think Benavidez will win and will win easy,” said De La Hoya when speaking to Fight Hub TV at the end of 2024.

"Canelo's done great for the sport. He's still doing amazing. But he's naturally slowing down due to age."
