Oscar De La Hoya faced some huge hitters.

Oscar De La Hoya has been retired as a professional fighter for almost 16 years, but his reputation is still highly respected following a glorious ring career.

After winning Olympic gold in 1992, De La Hoya pushed on with his professional career where he became a world champion in six weight classes as well as beating some huge names.

De La Hoya shared the ring with a number of monstrous punchers including Fernando Vargas and Felix Trinidad, but who was the hardest puncher he ever encountered?

Despite enjoying a memorable career testing himself against the best fighters, it was in sparring where De La Hoya came across Edwin Valero, and he describes the late Venezuelan fighter as the most powerful man he stepped in the ring with.

“He was the hardest puncher I’ve ever faced, and he was hitting me with sparring gloves,” said De La Hoya when speaking to ProBox TV about Valero.

“That’s how hard he hits. He was 100mph every single second. He was incredible.”
