Dillian Whyte could stay sharp by fighting fellow heavyweight Otto Wallin as he waits for a title fight.
Whyte beat Alexander Povetkin with an emphatic fourth round knockout last weekend, reclaiming the WBC interim championship that he lost at the hands of the veteran Russian last August.
During his last tenure, Whyte waited three years for a shot at a heavyweight title that never came, either against Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury. Now it appears he will have to wait at least until the two-fight event between Fury and Anthony Joshua is concluded.
Even then, Oleksandr Usyk or Joe Joyce will soon decide who is the WBO mandatory, and Michael Hunter hopes to soon be the IBF-designated challenger.
Whyte is not keen to risk his chances again so any fight might have to pose less of a threat to the 32-year-old Briton, and Swedish fighter Otto Wallin’s agent has suggested the pair of them meet in America. Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn believes Whyte may benefit from staying active while the situation resolves itself.
Hearn said: "I would like to get him back out quickly in the summer, maybe go over to the States and have a big fight as well."
Similarly, Wallin’s promoter Dmitriy Salita told Sky Sports he would be keen on a match-up.
"That could be an interesting encounter," Salita said.
"Otto is staying active and moving towards a world heavyweight title. If Dillian Whyte is in the way we will definitely explore that possibility."
