'Pay me good!' - Canelo Alvarez reveals which fighter he will need a windfall to face ahead of Edgar Berlanga boutRey Del Rio/Premier Boxing Champions
The Mexican will contest his latest bout this weekend, but there is one man he will only face for the payday.

Canelo Alvarez will only face David Benavidez for a good payday, revealing that he does not feel he must face the American to prove his worth.

The Mexican will face off with Edgar Berlanga this weekend in the latest defence of his WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight titles at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

There has been criticism over his decision to avoid a clash with Benavidez however, with the former WBC champion still unbeaten across his professional career.

Now Canelo has countered that he has no obligation to take the fight for anything other than a windfall, adding that he considers himself the superior fighter already.

"Look, I’m better than him for sure," he told DAZN. "I always fought with everybody the people say I’m not going to fight.

"[But] I need to ask if they really want to see the fight. Pay me good. We can wait."

Canelo's decision to eschew some foes has arguably hurt his pound-for-pound reputation, dropping behind others such as Terence Crawford and Oleksandr Usyk.

But the 34-year-old does not believe his placement is in question, adding. "They don’t go up in weight class, and try to be great and everything. It’s okay. I feel I’m the best."
