Regis Prograis heads into his super-lightweight showdown with Jack Catterall this weekend in the belief that the Chorley man isn’t as good as previous opponents.
The pair clash at Co-op Live in Manchester this Saturday night, live on DAZN, with the winner set to be in an ideal position to challenge for a world title in 2025.
Prograis enters the bout safe in the knowledge that he can handle the occasion of a big fight thanks to his two reigns as world champion at 140lbs.
In 2019, he lost a close bout to Josh Taylor in London, the same fighter Catterall has fought twice in a bitter series that has seen him win and lose against the Scotsman.
Then, at the backend of 2023, Prograis suffered just his second defeat as a professional when he was outclassed by Devin Haney in San Francisco.
Prograis is eager to prove himself once again following that setback, and is confident he is stepping into the ring with an opponent not at the same level as some of his former foes.
"I know I fought better fighters, and that’s no disrespect to him," said Prograis when speaking exclusively to DAZN in the build-up to his fascinating encounter with Catterall.
"You look at my resume. Me and him we don’t have the same resume. We don’t have the same resume. I was top of the world two times already.
"He’s never been world champion yet. The only thing I feel he has is the Josh Taylor fights, but apart from Josh Taylor, he has nothing on his resume.
"Obviously, I’m not treating it like a step down because there’s a lot of pressure on me and there’s a lot of pressure on him.
"For me, I want to be a three-time world champion, and he wants to be a first-time world champion. This is a big fight for both of our careers, but resume wise, we’re not the same."
