Ricky Hatton encourages Tyson Fury to be his old self against Dillian Whyte

Ricky Hatton has provided Tyson Fury with some tactical advice.

Tyson Fury has been urged to go back to his previous style when he faces Dillian Whyte. The pair are likely to meet at some stage in 2022 following Whyte’s lengthy wait to finally face the WBC world champion. The Brixton fighter has been dreaming of a shot at the sport’s biggest prize and it looks like he’ll get his wish with Fury being in the opposite corner.

Fury has been in sensational form since returning to the sport following a lengthy period and his thrilling trilogy with Deontay Wilder has made him a mainstream attraction. His aggressive displays against Wilder in the fights he won proved to be a successful strategy, but Ricky Hatton, a friend of Fury’s, has advised his old mate to revert to tactics that see him boxing on the move.

“I’m delighted for Dillian. The poor sod has been waiting forever and a day for his chance, but I think it is a fight Tyson can make as hard or as easy as he wants,” said Hatton in his latest Metro column

“It all depends on how he comes out in those opening rounds. If Tyson tries to outbox him, he will do just that and could have a very comfortable night. But if he wants to go toe-to-toe and have a war, he is handing Dillian his best chance of winning that fight.

“A bit of the old Tyson Fury might be what is needed. Slow him down and break him down a bit. We’ve seen what Alexander Povetkin and Anthony Joshua did to him, we know Whyte can be knocked down, we know he can be hurt.”
