Robert Garcia has lifted the lid on what changes he would've made ahead of Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk last month.

Joshua, with Garcia in his corner for the first time, made small improvements following his 2021 loss to the Ukrainian, but he didn’t do enough as AJ lost for the third time in his career via a split decision.

Now in Las Vegas taking in the scenery ahead of Canelo Alvarez’s trilogy meeting with Gennadiy Golovkin, Garcia, one of boxing’s greatest ever trainers, can reflect on the fight from a more relaxed standpoint.

Joining Ak and Barak on The DAZN Boxing Show podcast, Garcia provided details on what could've been done differently.

“What I would've liked to do is have one or two fights before the rematch which is something I told the team,” revealed Garcia when joining the DAZN team in boxing’s fight capital.

“It was a difficult task to go in there with somebody as difficult and awkward and a great boxer like Usyk, it wasn’t going to be easy.

“People can go back to when I started working with (Marcos) Maidana. We had three or four fights before Adrien Broner and that’s what I would've liked with Anthony.

“Get us two or three fights before anything big so he can learn from me and just to get used to each other. It was going to be difficult, but we tried.”
