The original O’Shaquie Foster-Robson Conceição fight in July left the boxing world stunned when judges awarded the split-decision victory to Conceição, making him the new WBC junior lightweight world champion, despite Foster outlanding the Brazilian 25 percent to 11 percent in an outright boxing clinic.
Well, Foster made sure the rematch was devoid of controversy, altogether, by producing a late surge to earn a split-decision victory and snatch back his WBC junior lightweight world title Saturday night. Judges inside the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York scored it 115-113 for Foster, 115-113 for Conceição and 115-113 for Foster who becomes a two-time world champ at 130 pounds. (DAZN had it 115-113 for Foster on the strength of winning the final five rounds).
Conceição came out strong Saturday night, using his long arms to stab jab Foster to the body, disrupting his rhythm. However, Foster made sure to keep the rounds ultra close before stepping on the gas and turning up the heat during the second half of the fight.
The 10th round, in particular, had Foster punching in traffic and catching Conceição with a right hook to the temple that buckled the Brazilian's knees.
Though Conceição would recover from the shot admirably, he didn't have the firepower to keep up with Foster's output late as the latter left the ring with the title in tow and desires of clashing with the winner of the Emanuel Navarrete vs. Oscar Valdez rematch next.
Here are the key updates and highlights from Foster-Conceição 2.
