Roman Gonzalez eyeing bantamweight move as he heads into Julio Cesar Martinez fight

Roman Gonzalez eyeing bantamweight move as he heads into Julio Cesar Martinez fightDAZN
Roman Gonzalez is aiming for further honours in his career.

Roman Gonzalez is refusing to rule out a move out to bantamweight at some point in his future.

The four division world champion faces Julio Cesar Martinez in a terrific super-flyweight encounter this weekend, a fight being shown on DAZN (except Mexico and Latin America), and victory for ‘Chocolatito’ could propel him to 118lbs as he seeks to win a world title in a fifth weight category.

As well as looking towards history at bantamweight, another potential option for Gonzalez is a trilogy meeting with Juan Francisco Estrada.

The Mexican defeated Gonzalez last year to even their rivalry, and a third fight was scheduled for tonight. Illness endured by Estrada means that his fellow countryman will step in, and regardless of what happens against Martinez, Gonzalez is ready to achieve more.

“Maybe I can even go on to win a title at 118 pounds and become a five-division champion,” said Gonzalez when speaking to BoxingScene.

“We’ll have to see. We’re not at that point in my career and I’m still thinking about stuff like that. Time will tell.

“God has already given me so much in my career. I fight because I believe I still have more to offer the sport. I would love to become a champion again and possibly unify the titles.”
