Ryan Garcia took to his Instagram account Saturday and announced that he's withdrawing from his July 9 fight against Javier Fortuna, citing "it is important to manage my health and wellbeing" and that "I have decided to take some time off to focus on becoming a stronger version of myself."
Golden Boy Promotions' Oscar De La Hoya showed support toward Garcia's decision with a tweet later in the day.
Garcia was set to defend his WBC interim lightweight world championship against mandatory challenger Javier Fortuna on July 9.
