The undisputed super middleweight champion could step up to 175lbs.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is planning to return to action next year after securing the title of undisputed world super middleweight champion.

Canelo defeated Caleb Plant on Saturday night in Las Vegas to secure the last remaining belt he needed - the IBF title. Added to that are his WBA, WBC and WBO titles and he is now the indisputable champion at 168lbs.

It has been suggested that Alvarez will step up to 175lbs in a return to the division after becoming WBO light heavyweight champion by beating Sergey Kovalev in 2019. He has previously discussed the merits of Dimitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev, two of the division’s existing champions.

Speaking after his win on Saturday, reported The Metro, he explained: “We are always looking for the best fights and defending the titles is always important.

“But like I said before, right now we are focused on enjoying this fight, trying to enjoy the moment that is really meaningful and then when the time comes we will think about the future.

“Maybe January we will see what is next.

“I have nothing in particular in mind right now, but I love challenges and whatever comes my way, I’ll be ready for it.

“I’m ready for any challenge anytime but we will see what comes next year. But right now I am enjoying the moment.”
