Sergio Mora and Chris Mannix discussed Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez’s next move on JABS as part of The DAZN Boxing Show.
At 34, Gonzalez has a limited amount of time before he will have to draw his career to a close, and has indicated that he wants to maximise his earnings with his remaining ring appearances.
Former world champion Mora understands the motivation and thinks the fighter has earned his opportunity.
“I think the biggest and most lucrative fight out there is [Naoya] Inoue,” he said.
“It oculd be anywhere, it’s going to be a great fight and a violent fight at that.”
Mannix suggested that Nonito Donaire could be just as appealing to a wide audience.
“The biggest money is here in the US and comes with Nonito Donaire,” he explained.
“He says he could make 115lbs. Is there any more marketable fight than Donaire against the volume punching machine that is Roman Gonzalez? That is a monster fight.”
Mora conceded that it would be a compelling match-up, saying: “Nonito is my favourite fighter, he’s been great or the last 20 years, but I just think there’s an aura of invincibility with Inoue now there, but there's always been one with Roman Gonzalez.
“Give me either fight. I want Chocolatito to make the big money, the seven figures and plus, he deserves it at this stage of his career.”
