The current champion had his say.

Shakur Stevenson expects Andy Cruz one day to challenge for world titles after his victory on Saturday.

Cruz defeated Antonio Moran with a seventh-round stoppage. He retained the IBF International title, and moved to four wins and two knockouts. The 28-year-old Olympic gold medal winner is now 28, and has been linked with some high-profile opponents already.

Stevenson is also a former Olympian, and he is the current WBC lightweight champion after winning belts at 130lbs before then.

Both men could in theory meet in the ring in due course, and speaking to DAZN, Stevenson suggested that Cruz needed a little more experience in the ring to get to that level in the professional side of things.

He said: “Great performance, he was sharp. Good defensively. Once the guy got tired, he got him out of there.”

Asked about the chances of Cruz landing a belt in the near future, he added: “I don't know, he still got to take baby steps, not at that super top level, but he'll get there for sure."
