Shakur Stevenson gives verdict on Gervonta 'Tank' Davis retirement

Shakur Stevenson gives verdict on Gervonta 'Tank' Davis retirementDAZN

If Gervonta 'Tank' Davis keeps to his word, then this will be the final year he will be stepping inside the ring.

Towards the end of 2024, Davis announced that he intends to bring his boxing career to a close come the end of the year and he begins his victory lap on March 1.

Returning to Brooklyn's Barclays Center, Davis will be facing Lamont Roach with fans hoping that 'Tank' can deliver another one of his trademark and viral knockouts.

If Davis does indeed hang up the gloves for good, then there is a chance WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson could find himself as a candidate to be the new face of American boxing.

Speaking to iFL TV following his cousin, Zaquin Moses' win over Mario Garcia, Stevenson could understand why Davis has made this huge decision.

"I get it, I understand it," Stevenson said.

"It’s a lame a—s game, boxing has turned very lame. There’s a lot of politics and it is not about how good you are as a boxer, sometimes it’s who you know."

Steveson returns to action on February 22 when he defends his title against Floyd Schofield on the stacked Last Crescendo card which will be broadcast live on DAZN PPV.
