Upon the announcement that Shakur Stevenson will be defending his WBC lightweight world championship against Joe Cordina on October 12 as part of the Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol main card, one trainer made it known that he isn't impressed.
Kenny Ellis, co-trainer of Gervonta Davis, took to his Instagram account and posted "Get your tickets now" in an attempt to sarcastically mock the fight.
Stevenson caught wind of the remark and fired back at Ellis via his X social media account, posting a screenshot of Ellis' daughter's record of 7-3 and jabbing back with: "Cmon @CoachKennyEllis Stay Focused!" noting his thoughts that three losses in 10 fights is too many.
Stevenson also added:
At 22-0 with 10 knockouts, Stevenson will look to record his second straight title defense after already defending the championship with a unanimous decision over Artem Harutyunyan last month.
Cordina (17-1, 9 KOs) is coming off his first professional loss, having suffered an eighth-round TKO at the hands of Anthony Cacace in May to drop the IBF super featherweight world title.
